Minimal
One way to paint an overused subject like a sunset is to simplify it. Make it more about language (shape, color, line) than about subject so that the sunset part doesn't just take over in the viewer's mind. Ask yourself, which do you see first, the sunset over the river or the shapes and color?

You are right, the shapes and colors first. Love the very few thin lines, warm, engaging painting and we are immediately involved.
ReplyDeleteIts always nice to try to balance subject matter with language. Its one of the main things a lot of modern painting tries to do.
