Underwater Currents

This is one part of a diptych which will become the last series of January. I keep wanting to do more to it and actually I have colored in between the red lines but because it is one piece of two, I've tried to just let it be.

Dark Water

Black outside, winds of 60 mph. Osprey are stationary in the sky as they hold themselves in the southern blow. Air is an ominous swirl of needle drops on breaking waves. Why do we on sunny days forget about the power of weather?

Creation Myth

There are many creation myths. I like this one pretty well.  It looks like water is involved.

This is another large drawing.
It is approximately 3' x 3'.

Archaic Smile

I've always thought that creation is really smiling, playful, alive and we just never see it.

Tree and Spiral

The tree and spiral are one. They belong together. One embedded in the other.

Shut

In every way closed, shut, locked, done, decided, absent, evening.

River Bird

The bird, upright in his party hat, has turned away from the water. He stands with his back to the world.

Maybe that's a good thing.

Dream - Astral View

A distance of floating high and time gliding. Space management.

A large drawing 2' x 3.5'.

Red Fish

I am suddenly relieved of the responsibility of "intention". The drawing has it's own life separate from me and it does what it wants.

Large drawing about 3' x 4'.

Halo

A halo can have some debris in it. Then it becomes something you can't see through.

Seed

Maybe these images don't need much commentary. That is always best if the story is the image.

Center Point

I don't have a cosmic vision yet. Let's see what unfolds with these. I feel sure some story, maybe a grand story will evolve. I should ask the spiral.

Tree of Light and Dark

Another large drawing. I saw this in the yard recently and actually it was moonlit. The trees whirl sometimes when the moon is bright, the water calm, the air sultry and warm. The yard loves to feel them move, and even the spiral was awake to watch. You can see it hovering through the trees.

Large drawing about 21/2' x 3'.

Facade Against The Light

Really, isn't that in some way what art is, a facade against the light and/or dark. Facades are our protective structures. It is useful not to know too much or go too deep.  This is a more visual way to put it.

Living Fish

I guess this points to more "stream of conscious" work for the New Year. Let's add in some drawing from life. Now that the holidays are over (whew), I am going to focus more on integrating all these various parts. This "fish" might be an example of what's needed.

The Last Rose

The weather is very cold. My luck has held for quite a while. I may do more flower pieces until the bouquet dies but I promise no more roses. As you can see here, I am waiting for warm weather and a new idea.

Almost The Last Rose

I'm not sure why I was painting the roses, something about the redness and the spiral layering of the petals. In medieval times the rose symbolized the out flowing of God's grace into the world. So when we look at a rose we are seeing that grace literally and symbolically. It's a nice idea.

Why Did The Blue Go?

Rose is dressed in green and the color suits her well. She has two attendants and likes to pose for me. The blue left at least for today. Maybe it was too much contrast. Happy New Years Day!
